The monumental survey Beatriz González: A Retrospective spans six decades of the pioneering Colombian artist’s work. The first career retrospective in the United States for González (born 1938), this exhibition provides a much-needed look at one of the most nuanced and exciting art expressions of the postwar period in Latin America.

Beatriz González: A Retrospective showcases work from 1960 to the present, embodying the full scope of González’s oeuvre, as well as her political production and commitment to documenting the violence perpetuated by the civil war in her country over the last three decades.

The presentation offers an expansive view of González’s unique and influential practice through her most iconic works, many of which have rarely been seen outside of Colombia. Selections are culled from the artist’s personal collection as well as from public and private collections in Colombia, Europe, and the United States. The exhibition travels to the MFAH following the April 2019 premiere at the Pérez Art Museum Miami.
