The exhibition, Capturing the Past, critically examines the past in order to reflect current political and social developments and locate elements of the past in the present. In their work, four photo artists born in Iran explore the historical conditions of the Iranian present and their personal experiences.
The works invite visitors to question the historical conditionality of their own social, cultural and national identities by explicitly evoking the identity-creating function of the past from multiple perspectives. The exhibition presents numerous selected works in the Museum für Islamische Kunst, which also allows them to enter a dialog with historical objects from the museum’s collection.
