The colours of fire. Hamada - Artigas
Jun 3, 2021 - Sep 12, 2021
From 20th November 2020 to 7th March 2021, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya will present an exhibition that will provide a new approach to the artistic relation between Catalonia and Japan through ceramics based on the presentation of two major ceramic artists of the 20th century: Josep Llorens Artigas (1892-1980) and Hamada Shōji (1894-1978), National Living Japanese Treasure. The personal relation and mutual admiration between Hamada and Artigas will be the link based on which the visitor will be able to take an in-depth look at the impact and inspiration generated by Japanese ceramics in the country and, at the same time, discover common interests with other artists such as Joan Gardy Artigas, Eudald Serra and Joan Miró.

The exhibition will focus on the art of ceramics, although it will be complemented by other types of art, photographs and documents of the period in order to make known the fruitful links that Catalan artists, such as Josep Llorens Artigas, established in the mid-twentieth century with the Mingei movement, dedicated to the recovery of Japanese ceramics and popular art.

In collaboration with the J. Llorens Artigas Foundation.
