In 2016, the Formiguera family deposited the entire collection of Pere Formiguera (Barcelona 1952-2013) in the Museu Nacional, thus aligning themselves with the wishes of other photographers of his generation whose work is also part of the Museum’s photography collection. This initial deposit, after a period of intensive cleaning, restoration, digitization and inventorying by the Museum, has now been transformed in 2023 into a generous donation by the family. It is a very important admission for the museum that enables it to continue increasing the quality and the depth of the photography collection, the one growing the most at the present time. This small-format exhibition presents a selection of work by this author, an outstanding member of the first generation of Spanish artists who adopted photography as a means of artistic expression in this country. The intention is to present a selection that is representative of the works in the donation. Works from his best-known series are exhibited, such as Cronos and Ulls Clucs, as well as his more experimental works from the 1980s, like the series of Polaroids and Pixies, among others. A many-faceted artist, historian of photography, collector and exhibition curator, the work of Pere Formiguera can be found in museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, the MACBA, or the Fonds national d’art contemporain in Paris.
