Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria showcases part of its collection of mediaeval and Proto-Renaissance art in the Hermitage exhibition.

On display are the most prominent and landmark works from Umbria and Tuscany, brought together to reveal various facets of Italian art in the thirteenth – fifteenth centuries, among them single-panel icons and polyptychs, unique examples of early altar screens and processional crosses. The fourteenth century is illustrated by Madonna and Child (1300–1305), an icon created by the well-known Proto-Renaissance master Duccio di Buoninsegna, as well as by the works of Mariotto di Nardo, Taddeo di Bartolo and Gentile da Fabriano. The exhibition also features polychrome and marble sculptures, including the artwork by the famous sculptor Arnolfo di Cambio. A total of more than forty mediaeval pieces are to go on display as part of the Hermitage exhibition.
