The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of Austria's liberation from the Nazis at the end of the Second World War, as well as the 70th anniversary of the State Treaty of 1955. These two events and Austria's positive development in the Second Republic created the conditions for Austria's accession to the European Union on 1 January 1995. The Austrian National Library is taking these three anniversaries as an opportunity to look back on Austria's eventful history using selected pictorial icons of historical events, as well as of everyday life, and to remind us of who we are, where we come from and where we are going to. In this 'centenary exhibition', outstanding works by Austrian photographers present the history of Austria from the beginnings of the Republic to the present day.
