Warraba Weatherall
Mar 21, 2025 - Sep 7, 2025
Ticket: Free
The first solo museum exhibition by Kamilaroi artist Warraba Weatherall. Warraba Weatherall (b. 1987, Toowoomba, Queensland) is interested in how knowledge is created and communicated. He has undertaken extensive research into the histories of Kamilaroi cultural objects in public and private collections over the last decade.

The exhibition will encompass large-scale installation, sculpture, painting and video works. It will also premiere a number of new artworks, including a major new co-commission between the MCA and the Hawai’i Triennial 2025.

Weatherall’s artworks illustrate how cultural knowledge and objects are collected, archived and presented within museum and archives. They also draw our attention to the continuing influence of research and collecting practices that have their foundations in western colonial systems, highlighting how these practices shape contemporary representation of First Nations cultures and peoples.

Weatherall demonstrates how the objects, materials and documentation held within museums ‘hold power’ and have great influence. Drawing on personal and familial experiences, and his cultural knowledge, the artist presents alternative ways of seeing and understanding that offer future models for cross-cultural dialogues.
