It was in 1901 that Marcel Compaignon de Marchéville bought the château du Moulin from Edmond Chenu de Thuet after the death of its inhabitant, his sister Edwige. That same year, the restoration works began.

The clock tower had not yet been rebuilt. Based on the depiction of the castle in the large mural in the church of Saint Denis of Lassay-sur-Croisne (built at the same time as the castle), the bell tower was rebuilt during the restoration.
