In 2012, Fletcher Andersen (Facter) from Invurt.com, assisted by local artist Wayne Tindall, organised a multitude of Melbourne street and graffiti artists for an epic multi-year project to transform a dilapidated laneway in the back streets of Windsor and Chapel St into a thriving mecca of street art on Melbournes south side. This laneway has now become a landmark of street art and graffiti in Melbourne and is a must see for urban art aficionados.

After a period of time running the project, dubbed, unofficially, “Aerosol Alley”, the laneway gained the attention of Stonnington council, who offered to allocate the previously un-named laneway an official moniker. The laneway was named Artists Lane (unfortunately not “Aerosol Alley” as the artists had wanted it named) and they then decided to put their support behind the project once it was shown to be a boon to the community. In time, other local businesses and members of the local community also began to offer their support, and this once disused lane now plays host to a growing number of visitors and artists, both domestically and international, and is a focal point for graffiti and street art in the City of Stonnington and the greater Melbourne area.
Having played host to over four large scale painting sessions to date, including two Aerosol Alley events, artists transformed a previously empty and dilapidated laneway over a period of two years.
Artists involved in the project included Conrad Bizjak, Drewfunk, Putos, Silk Roy, Loadz, Presto, Ero, Senekt, Bailer, Facter, Ohnoes, Amac, Jak Rapmund, Paners, Woke, Jojo Spins, Jack Frost, Short, Choq, Jack Douglas, Makatron, Heesco, Ryan Boserio, Troll, Mysterious Al, Pierre Llloga, Unwell Bunny, Rus Kidd, Frosk, Jonathan Guthmann and Ashley Goudie, and INK & CLOG (Singapore).

Almost all of the work in Aerosol Alley (Artists Lane) as depcted in this street view is still present in the laneway.

As the laneway was painted over three sessions, many of the older pieces from 2012 were repainted over - however this Heesco piece of a Mongolian shamen is one of the surviving elements from the first paintup.
Tony Abbot, probably one of the worst prime ministers in Australian history, aptly rendered here as a devil by Heesco.
