"The Coin Collection of Lahore Museum, comprising 40,000 objects, is one of the largest collections of coins in the Subcontinent. It includes the earliest examples of punch-marked coins issued in the seventh/sixth century BCE during the time of the Achaemenian Empire."

This collection represents most major periods of the sub-continent's history like Graeco-Bactrian, Mauryan, Indo-Greek,Indo-Parthian, Kushan, Indo-Scythian, Huns, Hindu Shahia, Arabs, Ghaznavids, the Sultans, the Mughals, the Durranis, the Sikhs, the British and the modern coins of Pakistan. 

The collection attracts scholars from all over the  world for its rarity and richness.

The collection includes the first coins issued by Mahmood of Ghazna in Lahore bearing the legend of Mahmoodpur, the new name given by Mahmood to Lahore, and the beautiful Zodiac coins issued by Emperor Jahangir. 

As a whole, the coin collection of the Museum is an invaluable treasure for the study of the political, economic, social and cultural history of the Subcontinent in chronological order as well as for the study of the development of coin-making technology.
