21st century is when the culture and new media are joined together, thus, the world can encounter (or share) new culture very easily. 

K-pop is one of the pop culture in Korea that has been spot-lighted. In the early 2000s, marketing on Korean drama and its OST as well as idols in oversea countries succeeded to grab their attention. Consequently, K-pop was known as Korean Idols Music at that moment.

The development of new media, such as social network services as well as streaming services, Korean ballad, hip-hop and other genres has introduced to the world. Spontaneously, the strength of K-pop such as, easy melody, showy performance, music videos with the stories that arouse audiences’ interest, etc. causes to grab attention from Asian countries. Not only the Asian countries. Since 2011, K-pop has been spread out to western countries and also grabs their attention easily.

Consequently, the interpretation of k-pop has expanded. 

The exhibition “2000s K-pop History” introduces the trend of Korean Pop culture by using k-pop contents from every year. “2000s K-pop History” would help people to understand Korean culture and Korean pop culture and expect people to enjoy it.


  In 2007, the three major entertainment companies had their own super stars, JYP’s Wonder Girls, SM’s Girls’ Generation and YG’s Big Bang.

First, Wonder Girls, a 5 member girl group produced by Jinyoung Park of JYP, debuted in February 2007 with its single <irony>. In the same year, it released its first regular album <<the wonder years>>, and it reproduced the costumes and hair styles of members in 1980s according to the song’s retro concept. The title song <tell me> became the most successful song of the year with its addictive refrain and its dance easy to follow. The group won the Mutizen song of SBS Popular Music for 3 weeks, top at KBS Music Bank, and top at M.Net M-Countdown.

Girls’ Generation, 9 member girl group of SM, released its debut single album <the world that i meet again> on August 2, 2007, and had the debut stage at SBS Popular Songs 3 days later. On November 1, it released its first regular album <<girls’ generation>> forming competitive composition with Wonder Girls of JYP.

Last, G-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang of YG won Song of the Month at Cyworld Digital Music Awards, the Best Man Group and Best Song at M.net KM Music Festival, and Main Award at 22nd Golden Disk, showing off Big Bang’s remarkable growth.

Kara of DSP also debuted in March of 2007 opening girl groups’ golden days.

And Jinyoung Park, singer and producer of Wonder Girls of JYP, released his 7th regular album <<back to stage>>, title song <the house that you live in> first time in 7 years.

Other popular songs of that year were <everyday> by VOS of Star Empire, FT Island, <greeting of love> by Seeya, <password 486> by Yoonha, and <sonata of temptation> by Ivy.
