Richard Kurin, the Smithsonian Institution's Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, toured the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History and discussed artifacts of Cesar Chavez, including his jacket and hoe. Cesar Chavez was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist, who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association.

National Hispanic Heritage Month
James Billington speaks about the founding of National Hispanic Heritage Month and its importance in educating our nation and helping to remove stereotypes and cultural misconceptions. Mr. Billington also presents Bolivian-American teacher Jaime Escalante with the Presidential Education Award in Mathematics. Mr. Escalante was the inspiration for the movie, Stand and Deliver, where he was portrayed by actor Edward James Olmos.

The Palace of the Governors
Frances Levine talked about the history of the Palace of Governors. The Palace of the Governors was originally constructed in the early 17th century as Spain's seat of government for what is today the American Southwest. This adobe structure, now the state's history museum, was designated a Registered National Historic Landmark in 1960 and an American Treasure in 1999.
