THE NAMES PROJECT Italy

Every year ASA, AIDS Solidarity Association organizes the event "La Coperta dei Nomi" as national referent of the historical project promoted by the American organization The Names Project Foundation.

The event consists of the display of panels of blankets designed and embroidered by friends or relatives of victims of AIDS, so that their memory is not lost

The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, known in Italy as a name cover, is a project committed to the conservation of blankets made by friends and relatives in memory of people who have died as a result of AIDS.

The quilt is made up of blocks composed of eight individual blankets (panels), each measuring 90x180 cm forming a 360x360 cm patchwork generally made by friends and family of the victims of AIDS.

The extremely colorful blankets are generally made by friends and family of the victims of AIDS in the most extreme freedom in the use of styles and materials, with the addition of the name of one's loved one and a dedicated dedication and it.

During the commemorative events (December 1 WORLD DAY FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS) all patchworks are displayed next to each other to compose what is still considered the greatest collective artistic work in the world.

In 1989 the NAMES Project was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
