This 20-minute video-based artwork explores ideas around non-human consciousness and the interconnectivity of matter, created through a hybrid process incorporating Google AI
Created by artist Eunjo Lee, following a six-month Online Artist Residency with LAS Art Foundation in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture Lab, this project follows a narrator’s dream-like journey through three digital worlds, each representing a different layer of existence.
To create the intricate visuals, Lee used a process she refers to as “techno-alchemy.” Using Google’s Nano Banana Pro and Flow, Google’s AI filmmaking tool powered by Veo, she converted her own hand-drawn sketches into 2D and 3D assets. She then layered her own motion-captured choreography onto her characters and mapped Korean Hangul phonetics over the 3D environment to create a linguistic system that reflected the landscape’s geometry - co-developed with Gemini.
From the artist: “This commission has opened up a vast alchemical laboratory where I could explore the seismic shifts at the intersection of ancient spirituality, evolutionary psychology and machine aesthetics. The core of this journey was the conceptualisation of three non-human cities - a complete visualisation of non-human consciousness that transcends human rationality. Just as the ancient philosophy of Indra's Net in Buddhism posits that all entities in the universe reflect one another to form a colossal web, this concept is manifesting itself today through the structure of the Neural Network.” - artist Eunjo Lee
