Google Arts & Culture Artist in residence, Jack Wild, was curious to see if Gemini could help surface intriguing information hidden within the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Open Access database, and tailor it to people’s interest areas.

The process began by identifying key art movements in the collection to focus on. The CMA Open Access API for relevant materials was then queried for relevant materials, prioritising movements with ample source data. This data was provided to Gemini’s context window. For each movement and topic combination, a prompt was crafted, instructing Gemini to draft a guide. For example, for the one-minute guide to Impressionism for foodies, the prompt was: “Using the above texts as your sources, write a short guide to [food and drink] in [the art department furniture] using examples of specific works, artists, or creators.”
