This "Bumper" rocket leaves its launching platform vertically and is aimed approximately 10 degrees away from the impact point to counteract the rotation of the earth. The two-staged rocket, part of the GE's rocket development program for the Army Ordnance Department, consist of a German V-2 with an American built "Wac Corporal" n its nose. At an altitude of approximately 20 miles, the nose unit is fired. It has reached a record breaking altitude of 250 miles
