Your Journey
Fifty-seven million shares of General Electric Company stock with a current market value of about $2 and a quarter billion are in those boxes in a vault of the Guaranty Trust Company. Mrs. Dorothy Carr holds certificates similar to ones in envelopes held by William A. Baker which will be mailed today to 249,000 GE share owners to complete the three for one stock conversion which was voted at the company's annual meeting in Schenectady April 20. About 28.5 million shares of stock were outstanding when share owners voted to convert the company's 35 million authorized shares of common stock to 105 million shares of stock with a $5 par value. Each share owner is receiving two additional shares for each one held and instructions to retain his old certificates. "Operation Stock Split" was conducted by GE's Corporate Services Division in Schenectady and shares are being mailed out by the bank as registrar for the company
