Your Journey
A plastic hoop twice as strong as steel in certain applications and a batch of the herculean putty-like plastic from which it is made are examined by Ernest E. Johnson, general manager of the General Electrics Company's General Engineering laboratory. In a year end review of the laboratory achievement, the GE executive listed the hoop among top developments. Others included electronic" eyes" for continuously measuring the width of rapidity moving red hot steel stripes; a robot psychologist" to facilitate mass scale psychological and personnel testing; and "curved light" for pinpointing location of flaming gases within roaring jet engines.
