A "stickey' curiosity about what makes things stick led Robert Smith-Johannsen from competitive ski slopes to the General Electric Company's Waterford NY, chemical laboratory where he has made some important discoveries in sticking and sliding. Shown demonstrating the effectiveness of his bond between steel and silicone rubber, the GE scientist has also developed methods for coating refrigerator trays to eliminate stickey ice cubes, to prevent ice and snow from sticking to skies, and is working on a method of making ice slide from airplane surfaces thus alleviating hazardous ice conditions.
