One of the last of the inch thick steel plates, weighing some 20 tons, is hoisted into place as the 225-foot steel sphere for testing an atomic power plant for the U.S. submarines nears completion at West Milton, NY. This great sphere, constructed by the Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, for the AEC, forms part of the facilities of the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, which the General Electric Company operates for the Atomic Energy Commission.
