Judy Rowe holds one of new street lights on her knees inside a giant, light testing "hemisphere" at the General Electric Company's Illuminating Laboratory in Lynn, Mass. The fixtures were developed and tested at the laboratory before being installed. The "Hemisphere," like the iris diaphragm of a camera, can be closed down to a pinpoint to meet specific needs in light testing streets and floodlights.
