Recognized as a living national treasure, American Ballet Theatre has regularly toured the United States since its founding in 1940 and has performed abroad as the U.S. Cultural Ambassador by Presidential appointment, re-affirming its role as America's National Ballet Company®. American Ballet Theatre continues its tradition of featuring the finest dancers, choreographers and designers in the world. ABT dancers’ unusually broad knowledge of styles enables them to perform the Company’s famously wide-ranging repertoire, which encompasses the classic full-length ballets as well as the innovative works of today’s leading choreographers. In the separate exhibits that follow, we hope to entertain as well as enlighten you about the unique meaning behind each word that defines this Company: “American,” “Ballet” and “Theatre.” ABT has enjoyed an illustrious history, and we look forward to sharing the magic of dance-theatre.
