The American Civil War Museum explores the most critical period in America’s history--the Civil War era. The Museum’s premier artifact collection, immersive exhibitions, and diverse programming tell the stories of soldiers and civilians locked in a struggle over the soul and future of this nation. We invite visitors to see themselves as part of an alive and evolving history.
The Museum’s flagship site is located at Historic Tredegar on the banks of the James River in Richmond. ACWM also provides tours of the historic White House of the Confederacy in Richmond, where Jefferson Davis and his family resided during the American Civil War. The Museum’s third site, ACWM-Appomattox, located in Appomattox in central Virginia, examines the final year of the War and its legacies.
