The American Civil War Museum explores the most critical period in America’s history--the Civil War era. The Museum’s world-class artifact collection, immersive exhibitions, and diverse programming provide our visitors insight into the causes, course, and consequences of the Civil War, and encourage a better understanding of its importance.
The Museum’s flagship site is located at Historic Tredegar on the banks of the James River in Richmond. ACWM also provides tours of the historic White House of the Confederacy in Richmond, where Jefferson Davis and his family resided during the American Civil War. The Museum’s third site, ACWM-Appomattox, located in Appomattox in central Virginia, examines the final year of the War and its legacies.
