The East of Art Foundation was established in January 2006. Its goal is to promote the newest art emerging in Poland, both domestically and abroad. These activities are aimed at generating an increase in interest, as well as broadening knowledge and familiarity with contemporary art (especially the newest), in society and the development of artistic circles of the younger generation. The aspirations of the Foundation are realized through: organizing and financing exhibitions of works of art in the country and abroad, conducting analyses and studies in the field of current art, arranging meetings and symposia on the latest art, collecting and documenting works, mainly exhibits of visual arts, cooperation with domestic and foreign cultural institutions and people interested in the goals of the Foundation, electronic and printed archiving of events initiated and co-created by the organization.
The Foundation has been preparing the ArtBoom visual arts festival (www.artboomfestival.pl) with the Krakow Festival Office since 2006, and has also been running the Krakow Gallery Weekend Krakers (www.cracowgalleryweekend.pl) since 2012. In 2009, the East of Art Foundation initiated the Contemporary Belarus project, undertaken to animate and promote Belarusian contemporary art, too little known to a wider European audience. Together with the Malopolska Institute of Culture, Krytyka Polityczna and the Splot Foundation, the East of Art Foundation initiated the Urban Project (2009), a large-scale social and artistic activity. It has also co-created events such as Video Now (www.videonowproject.wordpress.com), Video Now Documentary and Krk: Loca(r)tor (www.facebook.com/krklocartor).
Since 2006, the East of Art Foundation has participated in the National Cultural Center's "Internships in Cultural Institutions" Program, lending its knowledge and experience to art and cultural animation students who have the opportunity to learn about the daily work of galleries and the foundation's activities during comprehensively prepared internships and placements. It also participates in the "Gaude Polonia" Scholarship Program of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, intended for young cultural artists.
The Foundation also cooperates with the heirs of artists such as Jerzy Duda-Gracz (jerzydudagracz.pl) and Franciszek Starowieyski (franciszekstarowieyski.pl).
