Torino, Italy

Fondazione CRT is non-profit organisation originated from Cassa di Risparmio di Torino in 1991, inheriting its name as well as its philanthropic mission. Its projects and resources target various sectors: from the preservation and promotion of the artistic heritage and cultural activities to scientific research; from education and training to health care and assistance for vulnerable social groups; from civil protection and environmental safeguards to innovation in local institutions and support of economic development.
Since 2000, it also has got a very important role in the promotion of contemporary art system of Turin and Piedmont, by means of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea – CRT.
The Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT was born with the aim of reinforcing the metropolitan contemporary art system, thanks to the purchase of artworks destined to enrich permanent collections of GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino and of Castello di Rivoli – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea; nowadays, thanks to a total investment of more than 40 millions of euro, the collection includes more than 870 artworks from important Italian and foreign artists, since the end of 40’s of the last century to our days.
Born with the acquisition of an important nucleus of works of Arte Povera, today this collections is increasing more and more: each acquisition is made after careful analysis and estimations which see a direct participation of a prestigious international Scientific Committee constituted by the Director of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia of Madrid, Manuel J. Borja-Villel; ; by the previous Director of Tate Modern of London, Sir Nicholas Serota; by the Director of VAC Foundation of Mosca, Francesco Manacorda; by the curator Beatrix Ruf; by the previous Director of Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, Rudi Fuchs and by the directors of Gam e and Castello di Rivoli.
The commitment in terms of resources to the benefit of the territory represents the raison d'être of a banking foundation: for the Fondazione Arte CRT, the resources are generally aimed at strengthening the centres of modern and contemporary art throughout the area, the idea being that this can improve the community's cultural fabric and sustain the level of excellence and the appeal that the most representative institutions of the system have achieved.
