Frankie Manning Foundation

Houston TX and New York City, United States

Frankie Manning (1914-2009) was a driving force in the development of the Lindy hop in the thirties and forties at Harlem's Savoy Ballroom. In the mid-eighties he emerged once again as the spearhead of the swing dance revitalization, teaching Lindy hop and inspiring thousands of new dancers all over the world. The Frankie Manning Foundation supports the continued spread of Lindy hop dancing through its Ambassador program, developing new communities around the world and building a following among African-Americans in the US. In an annual competition, dancers who seem to embody Manning's gifts and values are selected for training at Herräng Dance Camp in Sweden, where Manning left so much of his legacy of dancing and history. The stories here are about the achievements of Frankie Manning Foundation Ambassadors after they have been to Herräng.
