The Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments is the first municipal museum of musical instruments in Japan. It was established as a part of the “Creation of a City of Music” campaign carried out by Hamamatsu City since 1981, and is a proper museum facility under the law of museums.The mission of the museum is to collect and preserve a representative selection of musical instruments from around the world and also materials about them, to research and study them, to exhibit them with equal and unbiased perspective, and to cultivate the knowledge and understanding of people about music, musical instruments, and cultures through our various activities.We hope the museum will be one of the centers of musical instruments and their cultures, and the places where the people who love them will meet together to find out the wonderful world of them.
