The Institute of Black Imagination

New York, United States

The Institute of Black Imagination is an international non-profit organization advancing education, policy, practice, and funding for the ascension of the black and brown creative class. As a collaborative force, our mission is to expand the creative potential of black and brown thought leaders throughout the diaspora by providing a platform for self-expression, empowerment, and innovation.

Originating as a library housing the personal archives of the iconic artist Geoffrey Holder, the institute highlights the blueprint for creativity left behind via his archive. We aim to create a pathway for self-actualization and dialogue surrounding the concept of the Black imagination—an extraordinary force that transcends boundaries and ignites the spirits of individuals and communities.

With a multidisciplinary approach and a steadfast commitment to inclusivity, we bring together writers, entrepreneurs, architects, astrophysicists, and more. By fostering collaboration and embracing diverse perspectives, we seek to explore, challenge, and reimagine the world we inhabit.

Through our programs, initiatives, and partnerships, we provide a fertile ground for the cultivation of creativity--a gateway into a world of limitless possibilites. The IBI is a hub for black creativity, past, present and future--harnessing the briliance of black thought to bring about not only our liberation, but that of others as well. We're betting on power of the Black Imagination to solve for the blindspots that exist in the dominant, western european world view. This is our charge. This is our source of inspiration. This is Black Imagination at work.
