Jardín Escultórico Edward James, Las Pozas

Jardín Escultórico Edward James, Las Pozas

Xilitla, Mexico

The Edward James Sculpture Garden, Las Pozas, was created by Edward Frank William James, eccentric British poet, artist and patron of the surrealism art movement. Nestled in the Huasteca Potosina, Edward James found the perfect setting for his life's work. Among the waterfalls and the jungle, he began the construction of a surreal labyrinth: Buildings that evoke meaninglessness, doors that give way to nothingness, stairs that lead to the sky and stunning concrete flowers.

The Edward James Sculpture Garden is located in a comunity called La Conchita, in the municipality of Xilitla, San Luis Potosi. In 2007, Pedro and Elena Hernández Foundation acquired Las Pozas with the purpose of preserving the sculptures and protecting the ecosystem.

This sculptural compund was declared Cultural Heritage in 2006 by the state of San Luis Potosí and Artistic Monument in 2012 by the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA).
