Appointed by the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism, Mongolian Contemporary Art Support Association (MCASA) is organizing first ever Mongolia Pavilion in La Biennale di Venezia, the oldest in the world, highly reputable, AAA grade international art festival.
MCASA is a non-governmental organization established in 2012 by Gantuya Badamgarav with the aim to support and promote contemporary art of Mongolia. The Association implements strategically important projects to improve visibility of Mongolian art at international platform, supports Mongolian artists through involving them in international competitions, exchange and grant programs. Started with very little fund and few numbers of staff, the association has been working ambitiously to fulfill its aim, utilizing its limited sources and bringing together people and organizations, who shared their enthusiasm for the support of contemporary art in Mongolia. For relatively short period of time, MCASA was able to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Mongolia, Culture Development Fund, Arts Council of Mongolia, US State Department, Embassy of Mongolia in Canberra, Embassy of the United States in Ulaanbaatar, Goethe Institute in Ulaanbaatar, Pinchuk Foundation, Ukraine, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Art Gallery of South Australia and others, implementing fascinating projects.
MCASA worked with over 30 local and foreign volunteers and cooperated with leading local and international media channels. In 2015, MCASA is engaged with two significant and pioneering projects: (1) organization of first ever Mongolia Pavilion in 56th La Biennale di Venezia and (2) collaboration with the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art for Mongolia participation in 8th Asia Pacific Triennial. For organization of Mongolia Pavilion in La Biennale di Venezia, the Association works with David A Ross, former director of Whitney Museum of American Art and San Francisco MOMA and Uranchimeg Tsultem, lecturer at University of California, Berkley.
MCASA aims to establish partnerships with international institutions to bring better impact in developing contemporary art in Mongolia and improve its international visibility.
