BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano

Milano, Italy

BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano is a contemporary park conceived as an urban botanical library with an incredible plant heritage: over 100 species, more than 500 trees that form 22 circular forests and 135,000 plants including aromatics, hedges, shrubs, bulbs, climbers and herbaceous plants. The presence of a pond with aquatic plants creates a favorable ecosystem for pollinating insects and birds.
To complete the botanical richness, in 2025 the Rose Garden of BAM - Oasi degli Insetti e delle Farfalle will be inaugurated, with over 100 varieties of roses and a collection of food plants designed to enrich the biodiversity of the park and designed with the desire to become a model for accessibility for people with physical and cognitive disabilities. The new area also hosts two Bugs Hotels, the result of a public competition won by a Milanese elementary school.

The Biblioteca degli Alberi represents an innovative model of public-private partnership: a park of the Municipality of Milan created by COIMA, it is managed by the Riccardo Catella Foundation, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, and which with the creation of the BAM project takes care of its maintenance, safety and cultural program.
The Biblioteca degli Alberi, designed by the Dutch studio Inside Outside | Petra Blaisse was inaugurated on September 8, 2019 with an open-air concert with the Filarmonica della Scala and the presence of over 3,000 people, confirming its vocation as a cultural landmark of the city: with its 10 hectares, BAM is a magical place where vegetation and paths intertwine creating green rooms, irregular fields, circular forests, flowery meadows and areas equipped for children and fitness and where the avenues are designed with cutting-edge features.

BAM is a cultural park that looks to international examples, proposing itself as a model for future developments of urban greenery in Italy. An open-air theater, BAM has entrusted its cultural director with the creation of a program with over 250 cultural moments a year, free and dedicated to the nature-culture binomial: the BAMoments, activities distributed throughout the year to celebrate seasonality, designed to be experienced in the open air and inspired by the UN's sustainable development goals.
