The ambition of the museum Nicéphore Niépce is to explain the origins of photography from its invention by Niépce to the age of digital image. Its collections include nearly three million photographs and objects offering the possibility of a course always renewed over the visits. The use of interactive devices, the most sophisticated technologies, allows to go further in the understanding of the photographic world.
The museum is conceived as an initiatory journey around the main streams of photography. Professional shootings rub shoulders with amateur captures. The illustrated press plays an important role as an essential medium for the global diffusion of the medium.
Central part of the collections: the Chamber of Discovery, first camera in the world used by Nicéphore Niépce, inventor, to whom a room is dedicated in the visit.
