The Museum of Horsepower is special in many different respects at once. It is the first virtual museum of the Basel Historical Museum and was – before its closing in September 2016 – the only museum of its kind in Switzerland. Far away from the pulsating centre of town, this was a museum with a story to tell – the story of the early days of mobility. Its impressive collection of coaches, carriages and sleighs takes visitors on an exciting journey back in time. Standing alongside an array of luxury equipages are post coaches, heavy carts for transporting goods, assorted bridles and harnesses, liveries, and countless other objects related to horse-drawn locomotion.
