Archaeological Park of Recópolis
Zorita de los Canes, Spain

The Archaeological Park of Recópolis de Zorita de los Canes was built by the king Leovigildo in 578 CE to commemorate the consolidation of the real power and the state of the Visigoth kingdom. It received the name of Recópolis in honor of his son and future king Recaredo.

Its ruins were discovered in the forties by Juan Cabré, who made the first excavations in 1949. After several interventions in the 90s, in 2005 the Archaeological Park of Recópolis was created.
