Pinacoteca civica di Como

Como, Italy

The Civic Art Gallery of Como, located in the historic Palazzo Volpi, preserves and enhances the pictorial and sculptural heritage of the city. The collection, which extends from the Middle Ages to the present day, was formed through bequests, donations, purchases and documents the art of the area starting from religious buildings, passing through portraiture, landscape, genre painting, up to twentieth-century research related to Futurism, Rationalism and design. The fulcrum of the collections is the sixteenth-century collection of portraits of Illustrious Men by Paolo Giovio, the drawings by the architect Antonio Sant'Elia and some of the most significant works by a group of Abstract artists from Como in the twentieth century.
