Seashore Trolley Museum is the world’s first and largest electric transit museum of its kind, founded in 1939 when 8 young men from New England rescued local streetcar No. 31 from the Biddeford and Saco Railway before all of the railway’s streetcars were burned and scrapped. The museum's collection includes over 330 transit vehicles representing Maine, New England, and a significant national and international collection. Seashore is most well-known for its electric streetcars and operates a fleet that has been restored on a private heritage railroad, which we operates seasonally for the public. Seashore's collection also includes buses, trackless trolleys, rapid transit, historic railroad structures, and several other transit artifacts.
