Sezon Museum of Modern Art focuses on collecting and exhibiting works of contemporary artists from Japan and abroad. The collection, which is open to the public through exhibitions, includes works of Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, who led the art scene from the beginning of the 20th century, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Jasper Johns representing the post-war American art, and contemporary Japanese artists, Hisao Domoto, Shusaku Arakawa, and Natsuyuki Nakanishi. The museum also organizes exhibitions on a regular basis to introduce eminent artists in the contemporary Japanese art scene.
In the forest of Karuizawa, the museum designed by architect Kiyonori Kikutake and its garden primarily planned by sculptor Isamu Wakabayashi welcome visitors for full experience of contemporary art.
