Located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History seeks to understand the natural world and our place in it. We curate an irreplaceable archive of Earth’s physical, cultural, and biological diversity—more than 145 million objects in all. Through a long tradition of research, exhibitions, and public programs, we explore fundamental questions, spark curiosity, and connect people everywhere to Earth’s unfolding story. Admission to the museum is free. The museum is open daily except December 25, 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM. The museum is open for extended museum hours until 7:30 PM during certain days.
