St. James’ Settlement (SJS), a non-profit social service agency in Wan Chai founded in 1949. Along with its Community Centre Services established in 1987, we have been providing a wide range of wholehearted services for Wanchai residents and encouraging them to take a more active role in community lives. Facing recent community changes, we have re-position ourselves and develop new services, such as Sustainable Community building, Community Oriented Mutual Economy (COME). In September 2010, our revitalization and conservation proposal namely “Viva Blue House” was being selected by the Development Bureau. VBH is the first project of its kind, a constantly evolving story on local culture, a demonstrative research and educational tool, a beacon for sustainable communities to come. “House of Stories Hong Kong” is part of the VBH project; it serves as a home to a community museum and a neighborhood hub. Various heritage preservation programs have been organized, including exhibition, tour, workshop, art fair, to demonstrate the importance of “living heritage”. Through visiting this museum, visitors can enjoy not only the unique beauty of this grade I historical building, but also different stories and interaction with the local inhabitants.
