The Carr Center leverages the essence of the African American cultural experience to inspire, entertain, challenge and educate. It is a place where artists, across all disciplines, and community come together.
The Carr Center accomplishes our mission through three core programs: The Carr Center Presents, The Carr Center Arts Academy and The Carr Center Contemporary.
The Carr Center Presents… brings performing and visual arts to metro-Detroit including art exhibitions which feature national, regional and local artists.
The Carr Center Arts Academy offers arts education and training in visual art, music, dance and musical theater and film both in school classes and multi-week summer intensive programs. Academy master classes and workshops are conducted by our co-artistic directors, artists in residence and the world class artists visiting or presented by The Carr Center or our partners either in concert or in exhibition throughout the year.
The Carr Center Contemporary consists of two spaces—The Carr Center Gallery which is a dedicated space for the visual arts, and The Carr Center Performance Studio which serves as a non-traditional performance and art venue and multidisciplinary rehearsal space.
