The Music Library of the Friends of Music Society is the largest Music Library in Greece, and one of the foremost cultural spaces specializing in promoting music education and showcasing Greek musical creation. Housed in the new wing of the Athens Concert Hall — located in the centre of Athens and a cultural landmark for both the Greek public and foreign visitors — the Library is a leading point of reference in the provision of cultural services, giving the wider public the opportunity to engage with cultural content and take part in creating new content.
For 30 years now, the Music Library has offered its unique collection and services to the public, supporting education, culture, and the development of research and innovation in the fields of music and the arts through the most modern means. Its physical collections, focused on both international and Greek music, number around 180,000 titles.
In addition, the Library holds one of the largest Digital Repositories, with over 600,000 items from archives of Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis, Theodoros Antoniou, Nikos Skalkottas, Emilios Riadis, and many others.
It also holds a Digital Repository of Intangible Cultural Heritage that resulted from the research and documentation of the musical tradition of Thrace and Eastern Macedonia (Thrace–Eastern Macedonia Research Programme), which includes videos, sound recordings, scores, and interviews documenting and showcasing the region's traditional heritage, as well as the Domna Samiou archive, which belongs to the Domna Samiou Folk Music Association and includes song recordings and interviews from field recordings.
