Washoku was inscribed on UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on 4 December, 2013. Washoku is not only an outstanding form of diet, but the cultural embodiment of a spirit that values both nature and the traditional dietary cultures of the Japanese.
As a national movement to pass on Washoku culture to the next generation, Washoku Japan works hand in hand with groups involved with regional foods, local governments, individuals as well as manufacturers, service businesses and distributors, who support the Japanese diet.
