The Zamojskie Museum in Zamość

Zamość, Poland

The Zamojskie Museum in Zamość is housed in a group of townhouses built in the 17th century on the northern side of the Great Market Square. Their owners were Armenians, who began settling in Zamość from 1585, based on a privilege granted by Jan Zamoyski. The idea of establishing a museum in Zamość originated among regional intellectuals in the early 1920s. The initiator of the project was Zygmunt Klukowski, a doctor and social activist from Szczebrzeszyn.

The museum has been operating since 1926. Its mission is to collect, protect, and promote the multicultural heritage of the city of Zamość, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the surrounding Zamość region.
