Throughout its history, the Capitol has evolved in response to a changing nation. Not only is the Capitol a working office building, it is also a historic destination replete with collections of artifacts, paintings, photographs and documents. The mission of the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) is “Working together for Congress to inform, involve and inspire every visitor to the United States Capitol.” This statement conveys the CVC’s goal to provide a welcoming and educational environment for visitors to learn about the House, the Senate and the legislative process as well as the history of the art and architecture of the Capitol.
