Vancouver Art Gallery

Vancouver, Canada

The Vancouver Art Gallery, founded in 1931, is one of the leading Canadian art museums. Reflecting Vancouver’s prominence over the past decade on the international stage as a major center for contemporary art, the Gallery is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the museum experience and to undertaking programs that explore the relationship between contemporary life and artistic creativity.

Located in a magnificent turn-of-the-century landmark building, the Gallery is a focal point of downtown Vancouver and host to numerous cultural events. The Gallery provides dynamic and thought-provoking experiences for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, including innovative educational programs for over 20,000 schoolchildren and hundreds of families.

Under the leadership of Director Kathleen Bartels, the Gallery renewed its commitment to presenting exhibitions of international scope that feature groundbreaking work by leading contemporary artists from such disciplines as architecture, design, performance, photography, film, video and the newest forms of digital expression, as well as the best of the traditional disciplines of painting, sculpture and drawing.
