Vilnius University Library – the oldest and largest academic library in Lithuania, celebrates its 455th anniversary in 2025. Starting with valuable donations from Grand Duke Sigismund Augustus and the suffragan bishop of Vilnius Georgius Albinius in the mid-16th century, the library currently stores over 5 million documents dating as early as the 13th century. The unique collection of cultural heritage items contains incunabula, post-incunabula, early Lithuanian books (including the first printed Lithuanian book – "Catechism" by Martynas Mažvydas), valuable collected works of cartography, manuscripts, the richest collection of graphic arts in Lithuania, and so much more. All this is a part of humanity’s history and Vilnius University Library is eager to share its treasury of knowledge with the public.
