Situated in the largest contiguous landscape in Myanmar, Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary is home to diverse fauna, including seven Asian wild cats; endemic species like Burmese roofed turtle; and endangered species such as Asian elephant, dhole, and Shortridge's langur.
Semi-evergreen forests, swamp forests, mixed dry deciduous forests, and grasslands are found in Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary's diverse flora include species of bamboo, teak, palms, and orchids.

A third of the sanctuary is made up of wetlands and small streams. Tributaries of the Chindwin River serves as the main source of freshwater for local communities and wildlife living within the sanctuary's core area.
