The 19th century building of the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE is inspired by Venetian Renaissance palazzo style architecture and Dmitry Gutov has used a real Venetian gondola in creation of his artwork.

"Gondola" continues the central theme of Gutov's creative work. The cosmic, the airborne, the linear: they are all recurring features of Gutov's three-dimensional art.
As a teenager, the artist read the script of Michelangelo Antonioni's film Zabriskie Point and was so impressed that it served as an intellectual inspiration for him for several decades. In one of the final scenes, the protagonist imagines house exploding and the space being filled with colourful fragments of consumer goods.

References to this film are also present in Dmitry Gutov's artwork “Gondola”.
Gutov's 12-metre "Gondola" is a frozen explosion of Venetian gondola – spatial, yet linearly clear message just like all other works by the prominent artist.
Gutov's "Gondola" gives a truthful representation of how the tradition and avant-garde intertwine in the process of creation of modern and contemporary art.
During the years, Dmitry Gutov's "Gondola" has become one of the most significant cultural points in Riga. Meetings, visitor gatherings and a variety of local and international cultural events take place under the artwork.
