Kabir by Arpana CaurAcademy of Fine Arts and Literature
Arpana Caur's artistic vision is deeply influenced by Saint Kabir. She frequently portrays him, with this painting exemplifying the profound impact he has on her work.
Kabir, a weaver by trade, infused his poetry with the imagery of looms and cloth. Discovered in a pond in Varanasi by a weaver couple, his origins remained a mystery as he was neither identifiably Hindu nor Muslim.
Kabir is beyond institutional religion. Here he is depicted weaving water, a symbol for harmony.
The depiction of water is inspired by miniatures paintings from the hills of Punjab.
He was an iconoclast beyond institutionalised religion.
Arpana Caur's work reflects Kabir's profound societal impact. His teachings and weaving inspired transformation, depicted here as expanding ripples.
