Devngosha South Park

1111 Hope St. mural is located on a multi-level parking structure, the first of its kind to be transformed into a work of art in Los Angeles. The mural was created by DevnGosha, artists Devin Liston & Gosha Levochkin. A collaboration formed in 2012, Devin’s past work had centered about portraiture, an emphasis he found ready expression, & hybridisation. Gosha’s work by contrast, found greatest expression in explorations of the urban landscape, & the effects of such upon inhabitants, created largely in watercolour. DevNgosha have envisioned a fantastic approach to this building using the structure to inform, rather than impede  their creativity.  Inspired by the historic photographer Eadweard Muybridge famous for early work in motion-picture projection, the artists are approaching the artwork as a stop motion sequence to be translated on the exterior walls on each floor. This unique and uncommon site for public art engagement will be transformed into a large-scale work of art that is site specific to the building and contribute to the visual culture in this community center. “The South Park community is committed to seeing a successful and meaningful public art campaign in the district, and rallied together to make this mural a reality,” said Lall.  “The long-term goal is for South Park to continue to evolve as a world-class cultural destination, showcasing some of the finest integrated art.” Increasingly exhibiting throughout L.A whilst gaining broader visibility, through a series of recent large-scale mural commissions, DevNgosha’s emergent, more restrained line-imagery & disjointed scenery will be a welcome addition to the South Park public art program.
